Exercise Motivation

For the past two months I’ve been sitting on my butt, finishing my book. I figured chasing the kids and lifting them up and down and up again counted as exercise. The reality is, it doesn’t. And more than anything, I need the exercise as a chance to clear my head and get at least an hour “off.”
So Tanya’s challenge to get in shape this spring seems like good motivation. Tanya found the WOMAN Challenge, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of National Women’s Health Week.
We’re going to do at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day for 8 weeks, starting on Mother’s Day, May 13th. Yes, pushing a stroller counts.
If you join the challenge you get email updates, a tracking log, a pedometer (while supplies last), and you’ll be able to track our team’s virtual progress on a map. Our team, The Breastfeeding Babes, chose the cross-country route, which starts in San Francisco, and ends in Washington, D.C.
If you want to join our team, here’s what to do:
1. Sign up here. If you choose to count your activity in steps, you may get a free pedometer (while supplies last).
2. Follow the directions for joining a team, and join the “Breastfeeding Babes.” Note: You may have to search for teams in Massachusetts to find it.
3. Starting on Mother’s Day, track your progress on the WOMAN Challenge website.

I swear we are connected in some way. I have been “blogging in my head” about my get in shape post.
I am so glad to hear about this. I need all the motivation I can get!
I just joined a contest (10 days ago) at my gym that is 12 weeks long. I have lost 8 pounds already!
I am so on this!

Does giving birth count? ;-) This will probably overlap with my due date!
I will think about this because I have a toddler – it’s likely I will be getting a good 30 minutes a day of exercise.
